Grand Regency-Gate

So I’ve been studiously avoiding Kenyan politics since you know when. But the Grand Regency controversy is too big to navigate around without tossing in a comment.

I actually like Kimunya. (Yeah, yeah, I know to each his own.)

And I think it's pretty clear he’s the fall guy for a much wider circle that pulled this off.

But, the buck must stop somewhere.

And we must bring an end to this culture of misuse of public funds with impunity that has been our curse for so long.

"Just Say No" to corruption already.

So, Kimunya must take responsibility for this, scurry off to a faraway place with his tail between his legs, and rue the day he got drawn into this filthy game that is Kenyan politics today.

While he’s at it, he might also take the time to reinvent and repackage himself. He can draw consolation from the fact that Kenyans have a painfully short collective memory. After all, Cyrus "Y2K" “Goldenberg” Jirongo has remade himself before our very eyes as an anti-corruption czar.

Welcome, good people, to Extreme Makeover, the Kenyan edition.

Kimunya is smart and experienced enough to know better.
The laws already favour the corrupt, as the IPO of safcom, and the salary increases of PSs and MPs shows.

As far as people like Jirongo are concerned, this is a weakness in the democratic system.
Anytime a politician gains this kind of notoriety, it makes him/her even more popular in their constituencies.

And forces the president to pay attention, especially with a closely divided electorate.
